Nokia is an iconic name in the world of mobile phones. Once a well-known, well-trusted feature phone maker had once fallen to the rise of the smartphones. However, before that, it was a technology behemoth, famous for its sturdy devices meant for the long run. But when the smartphone market was booming, it somehow lost the race to Apple, Samsung and others. However, Nokia kept trying its hand in this sector, failing most of the time. Nokia even brought out Windows smartphone, with Microsoft. But those devices too, despite being beautiful, failed to make a connection with the masses who were already used to iOS and Android devices. However, with HMD Global, Nokia is planning to make a big re-entry into the saturated market. But has it been successful so far? Well, HMD Global might have a few numbers to show.
HMD Global, which makes the Nokia branded phones now, has been a little sceptical with revealing numbers and sales figures. That has been mainly because it is a startup, and it is competing against giants like Apple iPhone and Samsung devices. However, it will be foolish to compare its numbers with those big companies, since the new Nokia phones are not even a year old. HMD Global, in 2017, has launched Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, and Nokia 8 mobiles. Also, it is expected that two new devices, including Nokia 9 are to be announced by the end of the year. So has the company been successful in terms of retail sales? Here’s what the company had to say:
HMD’s Chief Marketing Officer Pekka Rantal, in an interview with Italian website Nokiataca, said that “we are really happy about the sales, we have been selling already millions of Nokia smartphones and tens of millions when it comes to basic Nokia phones.” You can watch the video here:
According to NokiaPowerUser, one can verify the data in a rather unusual way. There has been a rise in the downloads of Nokia Mobile Support app which is present in the Google Play App Store. When it comes to numbers, the report says it is between 1 million and 5 million downloads.
