The trademarked Nokia 8 Sirocco is speculated to be a rehashed version of the now over a decade-old Nokia 8800 Sirocco feature phone. The Nokia 8800 Sirocco defined the premium line of feature phones back when Nokia was in its glory days.
HMD Global, the Nokia-brand licensee, is gearing up to announce new Nokia devices at its event slated for February 25, ahead of the official start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. While rumours around the launch of Nokia 9, Nokia 7 Plus are rife, the Finnish company is now reported to be working to revive an older Nokia premium phone lineup, along with a new entry-level device that is said to be even lower-specced than the Nokia 2. As per a report, the Nokia device bearing the model number TA-1005, which has so far been related to the anticipated Nokia 9, has now been trademarked as Nokia 8 Sirocco by the company. Separately, a Nokia device with model number TA-1056 and smaller dimensions than Nokia 2 passed through US FCC certification.
The trademarked Nokia 8 Sirocco is speculated to be a rehashed version of the now over a decade-old Nokia 8800 Sirocco feature phone. The Nokia 8800 Sirocco defined the premium line of feature phones back when Nokia was in its glory days. The Nokia device with model number TA-1005 was previously rumoured to be the Nokia 9, which could be launched later this month ahead of MWC 2018. However, a report by a Dutch website Mobielkopen suggests that the same model could be the Nokia 8 Sirocco instead.
According to the previous rumours, the Nokia 9, which could now bear a new name, would come with flagship specifications. It is said to sport an LG-manufactured 5.5-inch OLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, Android 8.0 Oreo, and 128GB inbuilt storage, with no clear mention of the RAM size. For the cameras, the handset could house a dual rear camera setup with one 12-megapixel and one 13-megapixel shooter. The front camera of the device is speculated to be a 5-megapixel shooter. It is worth mentioning that the Nokia 8 has a 13-megapixel front camera. The battery capacity on the handset will be 3250mAh with support for fast charging. The Nokia 9 missed the speculated launch timeline of early January, but now the rumours hint at HMD Global’s scheduled launch event on February 25.
