Windows 10 is launching after nearly nine months of new Insider previews, new patches and new solutions. Windows 10 is basically a merger of the goodness of Windows 7 and Windows 8. It retains the desktop of Windows 7 and fuses the live tiles of Windows 10 onto the Start Screen.

Microsoft is changing its strategies with Windows 10. First and the most important stuff, Windows 10 is free and will be a painless upgrade. That brings us to the question: How do I upgrade?

Here’s our help guide

Step 1: Make sure you run Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1, this automatically qualifies you for the free upgrade which users can claim within the next one year. To check the version of your windows, search for Winver on you PC and you will know. Also users can upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 users can upgrade to Windows 7 SP1 to upgrade to Windows 10.

Step 2: Now you have Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1, next step is to go to Windows Update and download KB3035583 update which will be a recommended update on your PC. Once downloaded, install the update and let your computer reboot.

You will now see a new Start button residing on the right hand side of your Taskbar. This is ‘Get Windows 10’ app – your gateway to Windows 10 upgrade. Click on the app, do few taps and you will be reserved for the upgrade.

Microsoft is making Windows 10 rollout a staged process wherein the new OS will be delivered to a batch of devices classified on the basis of hardware they are running and if any bugs come around, Microsoft will patch in the next update. This streamlines the whole process and makes the upgrade efficient and effortless.
