The M5 is a sleek feature-packed phone that provides a good viewing experience
Take a good look around the back of any electronic device and chances are you will come across a label that says ‘Made in China’. This goes for anything from your microwave to your MP3 player, TV, stereo and other consumer electronic devices. Chinese smartphone brands also generate a lot of attention from consumers pan-India. Towards this, devices from Meizu Technology have experienced a good customer response in the Indian market. I was particularly impressed with the beautifully-crafted MX5 device. Bolstered by the business prospects, it has expanded its product range with a new smartphone Meizu M5. It retails for Rs 10,499 and is available on Tatacliq.com. Out of the box, the M5 gets a proven polycarbonate cover, its moulding is precise and the polishing is finely done. The device sports an attractive and elegant look; Meizu officials emphasise that the endeavour is to lure young customers who have a strong preference for devices with good specs at an attractive price tag. The M5 comes as 32 GB variant only. It is available in two exciting colours—Blue and Gold, we got the latter for a product evaluation. Meizu M5 has a 5.2-inch screen with the 720P 2.5D glass, which looks natural and beautiful with its pixel density of 282 PPI. The fully-laminated HD display of the device is based on IPS technology for a crisp image quality, while the integrated blue light filter automatically adjusts blue light emission to reduce eye strain. There’s a transparent layer of UV coating with its R-angle curved design which adds to the good looks and build quality of the device. Overall, the device has a sleek and streamlined touch and feel.
Switched on, the M5 comes to life pretty quickly. It is powered by an octa-core processor with the Mali-T860 GPU for efficient performance. The device is equipped with fingerprint identification and fingerprint payment options as mTouch 2.1 and mBack home button which ensure a safe and swift user experience.
For photography enthusiasts, the M5 is equipped with 13-megapixel rear camera which supports PDAF focusing with a large f/2.2 aperture. I checked this one out thoroughly and trust me, the device makes photography a great and lively experience. You can click good photos even in low light conditions and in motion. Additionally, 5.0 megapixel front camera is equipped with a large ƒ/2.0 aperture, for optimum performance even under low light conditions. Furthermore M5 comes with an advanced FotoNation 2.0 intelligent beautification feature which is embedded in combination with the already existing Face AE: facial exposure strengthening technology.
The M5 comes with a powerful battery of 3070mAh providing a long standby time. Additionally, the improved battery optimisation features in Flyme operating system makes sure that the battery lasts even longer. In short, you can enjoy longer conversations with the slow drainage 3070mAh battery. In actual usage, the M5 ran extremely well and was very fast opening apps and during surfing the websites. Snapping away with its camera produced some very good photos with good resolution and clarity. I was impressed with its almost two-day battery life. In short, if you are in the market for a decent mid-ranger, then the M5 can be a good choice.
