Lenovo ThinkPad 11e has a judicious mix of features and software to create a good digital learning environment
Remember those sturdy, classic-looking ThinkPad laptops that many working professionals used to carry around? Big Blue might have sold the highly popular business laptop business to Lenovo almost a decade back, but the fact is ThinkPads remain the best business laptops in the industry till date. The Chinese tech major seems to have reworked the ThinkPad line in order to appeal to a wider audience. Recently, it introduced the ThinkPad 11e, a durable, smart laptop apt for school-going children. It retails for an affordable Rs 46,850 and company officials say that the product is reinforced to withstand the physical demands of the primary school experience. It is equipped with the necessary features and software to create and nurture a digital learning environment.
Out of the box, the ThinkPad 11e comes across as a rugged piece of computer. There’s a rubber bumper around the top cover to absorb the force of side bumps. The corners are said to be 50% stronger, to reduce damage when dropped at an angle. The bezel is thicker, to protect the LCD panel, and a stronger rear cover reduces accidental LCD damage. The hinges and brackets have been strengthened and reinforced ports and a reduced gap between anchored keys help prevent accidental damage from a bored child’s exploring fingers. Put simply, this is one tough machine.
Probing the innards, the ThinkPad 11e is powered by an Intel Celeron N2940 processor, there’s memory capacity up to 8 GB max DDR3L 1600 MHz and storage is up to 128GB SSD. The low-light-sensitive, 720p HD webcam with face-tracking, plus dual digital-array microphones, will help you enjoy web conferences or online video chats like you are really there.
Switched on, the machine’s 29.46 cm (11.6-inch) HD LED IPS touch display comes to life in a jiffy. The spacious keyboard has that familiar ThinkPad look and feel. Its typing keys are well-spa-ced and offer plenty of room for comfortable typing. Personally, I believe the ThinkPad 11e can be a good choice for professionals on-the-go. However, I will restrict myself to its scope in the realm of education.
Towards this, the ThinkPad 11e can be configured with a suite of education software titles, including Kno Textbooks, ArtRage, and Classroom Mana-gement. Intended for use by students and educators alike, the software enables critical think-ing, problem-solving, collabor-ation, communication, and managed focus, truly creating a good learning environment. You can even move data between the 11e and other devices quickly with USB 3.0—it’s up to 10 times faster than previous USB technologies and backward-compatible with USB 2.0.
The ThinkPad 11e has a suite of audio technologies to enable your machine to deliver a crisp, clear surround sound experience over its built-in stereo speakers. The technology increases audio clarity for VoIP applications, maximises volume output without distortion, and improves dialogue clarity when watching videos.
This ThinkPad has a powered USB port which means you can enjoy the benefits of an always-on port, charging your USB devices without having to turn on your laptop. It has an HDMI output for easy connection to a television or other display.
The ThinkPad has been a widely popular enterprise laptop and is known for its robustness, toughness and reliability. Lenovo is now pushing its ThinkPad 11e as an ideal student companion. Take my word, it is lightweight and easy to carry. Its high-resolution screen looks fantastic and the device impresses in terms of its performance and specs.
