With powerful specs and dual rear camera becoming the new norm in the sub-Rs 20,000 smartphone market, Lenovo has recently launched Lenovo K8 Note focused on users looking for high-end functionality and quality camera. Priced at Rs 14,999 the Lenovo K8 Note comes with the newest Android 7.1.1, dual rear camera and is powered by a 4000mAh non-removable battery. But the most differentiating feature is stock Android which makes the device run like a cake.
Out of the box, the Lenovo K8 Note looks premium. The metal body feels sturdy. The Aluminium material adds further elegance to the overall design. The front is dominated by a 5.5-inch display, which offers a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels. The resolution quality is good, icons look sharp and sunlight legibility is decent. The front also houses a front camera on the top, while three capacitive touch keys are placed in the bottom.
There is space for a 3.5 mm headset jack on the top, while the bottom has space for a micro USB charger. The power and volume rocker keys are placed at the right edge while the left has dual SIM card slot and key to manage music. The detachable rear panel is home to Lenovo branding along with dual rear camera and LED flash. The device is non-slippery and comfortable to hold on.
The Lenovo K8 Note runs on Android 7.1.1 and is powered by 1.4GHz MediaTek Helio X23 processor and it comes with 3GB of RAM. The phone packs 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Lenovo has switched from Vibe Pure UI to stock Android and this is quite visible from the experience that we had while using this smartphone for a week. During the review period, the device handled all functions smoothly without any hiccup. Shuffling between different apps and multi-tasking were just on the go. You may feel heat with continuous camera and GPS usage as we did.
On the camera front, the Lenovo K8 Note has some interesting features. It comes with a 13-megapixel dual rear and a 13-megapixel front camera. Both the camera produce decent quality picture. Some of the test pictures that we clicked were sharp and vivid but you may not get the same level of quality in low light conditions. We did not find any significant noise, low saturation and less sharpness in any of the test pictures that we took.
The device supports Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG, FM, 3G and 4G. It comes with a dual SIM. It is packed with a replaceable 4000mAh battery which offers decent standby time and could last between 6-8 hours with multi-tasking and continuous data usage. The device also has sensors like compass magnetometer, proximity sensor, accelerometer, ambient light sensor and gyroscope.
Smartphone such as Coolpad Cool 1 Dual, OnePlus 5 and Honor 6X have more or less similar or better features but interesting thing about Lenovo is that it is offering almost same level of user experience under Rs 15,000.
Overall, the Lenovo K8 Note is powerful phone that runs on newest Android 7.1.1, packs good camera, have decent battery life and offers good user experience.
It is value for money.
