Instagram has announced that it has seen an amazing growth and has reached 600 million monthly active users which are double of what it had in 2014. According to Instagram, the number of monthly active users have also increased by 100 million in the last six months alone. In a blogpost, Instagram said, “A lot has changed this year, but the Instagram community and the diversity of expression it provides have remained consistent. And you now have more ways to share than ever before with Instagram Stories, live video and disappearing photos and videos in Direct. Additionally, with updated safety tools that give you more control over comments and other parts of your experience, we’re working to make Instagram safer than ever for connection and self-expression.”
In the last few months, Instagram has added one of its biggest new features Instagram Stories and it has become a hit among users. Its is almost a clone of Snapchat’s stories feature. There is also the much-needed option of removing followers from users’ accounts and also filter out vulgar and offensive words and also the ability to disable comments on posts, and all these have been added in December itself. There is also the important addition of live video feature but as of now, it is only available in the US for Android and iOS users. It is present in the Stories feature itself. There is also the addition of ‘Saved’ tab for Android smartphones, which allows you to save posts you like and there is no notification to the person whose post you are saving. The slew of new upgrades and addition in features in the past few months has led to the rapid growth of the picture sharing app.
