Honor 9i, Honor 8 Pro, Honor, 7X, and Honor 8 Lite confirmed to get Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0

Honor is planning a broader rollout of EMUI 8.0 to make all its smartphones receive latest Android version

Huawei brand Honor has announced that it will be rolling out its AI-based EMUI 8.0 platform to more devices. The Honor 8 Pro, Honor 9i, Honor 7X, and Honor 8 Lite have been confirmed to get the EMUI 8.0, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. However, the company did not specify the exact time frame for the rollout. All of the smartphones were launched running Android Nougat and after the EMUI 8.0 update, they will join the likes of the recently launched Honor View 10, which already runs on EMUI 8.0.

The Honor View 10, which is the global variant of Honor V10, was launched recently in India and it runs Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 out-of-the-box. The company is also set to launch its next smartphone, Honor 9 Lite soon in India and it will be exclusively available on Flipkart. The Honor 9 Lite is also expected to ship with EMUI 8.0 skin. The company is planning a broader rollout of EMUI 8.0 to make all its smartphones receive latest Android version, along with its features.

EMUI 8.0 is based on Android 8.0 Oreo and features AI-powered Real-Time Scene and Object Recognition, Smart Tips, and AI Accelerated Translator under the hood. These features could vary according to the devices. It is a successor to company’s EMUI 5.1, which is a jump to synchronise it with the version number of Android 8.0. Other features of EMUI 8.0 include dynamic wallpaper, navigation bar customisation, split-screen, one-handed operation, and easy view in landscape mode.

As for the Honor 9 Lite, the smartphone will launch in India ‘soon’ as there is no confirmation on the launch date by the company. Flipkart has already listed the smartphone as an ‘exclusive’, which means that Honor 9 Lite will only be sold on Flipkart initially. The smartphone was launched in China in December last year. It comes in three RAM and storage configurations – 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage, 4GB RAM/ 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage. It is not clear as to which variant will be launched in India.

The Honor 9 Lite is powered by a Kirin 659 SoC. It boasts of four cameras – two cameras on each side. The smartphone features a 13-megapixel primary and 2-megapixel secondary camera on both the sides. It has a 5.65-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) IPS display having an 18:9 aspect ratio and 428ppi pixel density.
