Google has surprised everyone by launching the developer’s preview of the next Android, called as Android O. There is no information on what the ‘O’ stands for, but Google has posted details about the new features of its all-new operating system. The global tech giant has suddenly dropped the Android O into the market, but currently, it is available only for developers. Google had done the same when it had announced the Android Nougat in 2017, way ahead of its own I/O conference. At the moment, the Android O can be used only in the most recent Google devices. The developer’s preview of Android O can be used on smartphones like Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel, and Pixel XL phones, the Pixel C tablet, and the Nexus Player Android TV set-top box. Users can download the official ROM from Google Server itself. This version has been released for developers so you may face certain issues if you download it on the smartphone you use regularly. Here are the top 10 features of the Android O:
Better battery life
Background Limits, ensures there are automatic limits on apps running in the background. This feature will enable the smartphone users to save a lot of battery. Such changes will also make it easier for developers to make apps that have the least effect on the user’s phone and battery.
Picture on Picture
This is a refreshing change on Android. Under this new feature, users will be able to use certain apps over other apps. So, you will be able to watch a video even while booking a cab or writing on the notepad. All you need to do is select apps to run in the PiP mode.
Users will be able to create adaptive icons which will ensure better integration with the device interface. The adaptive icons mean that the icons will be displayed in various shapes, according to the mask chosen by the device. Google said that the OS also animates interactions with the icons, which can be used in Settings, shortcuts, as well as on the overview screen.
Notification channels have been introduced on Android O. This feature creates new application categories for notifications. Under this new feature on Android O, users will be able to block or change how the channels function individually. There will be no need to manage every app notification together. The new OS has also added new visuals and groups for the notifications. All of this essentially means that the notifications tab will look much neater now.
Wireless audio sound
Wireless audio, till now has not really been a breeze on smartphones, but now Android O supports high-quality Bluetooth audio codecs such as LDAC codec, which will give audio a boost. There are more features introduced for the audio on the smartphone, but this is the most interesting one since wireless sounds from smartphones are something which has not really been explored well, till now.
Android O has introduced better keyboard support for better navigation between applications. The company in its blog said that it is “focused on building a more reliable, predictable model for ‘arrow’ and ‘tab’ navigation” for users.”
Another new feature which will make phones’ display even better. The new feature will give the display screens a wider range of colours. With wide colour gamut (WCG) support, the smartphones will see apps more colours and expressions. Videos and pictures will also get sharper and crisper.
