On March 13, Gmail went down affecting millions of users worldwide and as the outage spread the reports rose as well. A large number of Gmail users took to social media to report about problems sending emails and the outage is still being reported from around the world, including in India.

There are some users who are also reporting issues with Google Drive, including patchy performance and some file types not opening.

As per a message posted on Google’s GSuite Status Dashboard, both Google Drive and Gmail are experiencing what it referred to as a “service disruption.”

The official message said, “We’re investigating reports of an issue with Gmail,” the message read. “We will provide more information shortly. The affected users are able to access Gmail, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior.”

Google had a similar status message for Google Drive.

The services still appear to be up for some users (Gmail was working for CNET staff New York and Australia but not for one of our reporters in San Francisco). But the outage is widespread and appears to cover North and South America, Europe and Asia.

This is not the first outage with services provided by Google this year. In January, a short outage had also occurred which affected users in some parts of Europe, parts of North America, South America as well as Asia. Users from all across the world had reported a 404 error when they tried to access their Gmail.

It is still not clear as to why the outages occurred as more details are awaited.
