PlayStation 4 is the most favoured gaming console in this millennium with the most number of games in it, yet it has been left behind in the race to being the device on which users spend the most amount of time. In a recent study by Global Web Index, which followed the pattern of 17,990 consumers, it was found that Xbox One and Wii U owners spend more time on their console for gaming than that of PlayStation 4 owners. When taken on average, Xbox users spend around 2 hours 27 minutes gaming each day, while Wii U users play for a close 2 hours and 26 minutes. But PS4 owners spend only around 2 hours and 15 minutes on their consoles. When taken an average for all the platforms, it was found that people play around 51 minutes every day on gaming consoles.
Last generation gaming consoles like Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were also included in the survey, but evidently, the time spent on those were considerably less than the current generation of consoles. But here too, Microsoft wins again with its Xbox 360 scoring the highest with 1 hour and 57 minutes spent by people on its platform. While PS3 owners were reported to be spending 1 hour and 55 minutes on its console and Wii users spend 1 hour and 34 minutes on an average.
Interestingly, even if the survey shows otherwise, it is a fact that PS4 is a leader when it comes to best-selling gaming consoles and also the number of games due to third party options. But looking into the mathematics of the survey, since there is more number of PS4 users, the demographic might have been too varied to come to a proper conclusion. Being more of an artefact of statistical sampling, there may have been casual gamers more than the hardcore gamers in the 17,990 that were interviewed.
