Fly Qik+ is a good mobile phone that brings in a decent set of specs at affordable price point
Device makers seem to have devised a new strategy to create a buzz around their new offerings, especially mobile phones: come up with an affordable phone with decent specs and sell it online. The latest company to adopt this strategy is UK-based Fly Mobiles; it has launched an affordable smartphone called Qik+, which is powered by octa-core processor and comes with a decent specs sheet.
Frankly, I was keen to review a device from Fly Mobiles for the simple reason that I wanted to break away from the usual suspects and look at a few less mainstream brands. In this instance, it has allowed me to look at the Qik+ from Fly. The handset is only available on online marketplace Snapdeal.com.
Fly Mobiles has been operating in the mobile phone segment for the past 10 years and is a prominent player in the markets of UK, Russia, Ukraine, Southern Europe and the CIS. It has created a niche for itself with its range of phones equipped with powerful dual and quad core processors, latest versions of Android, dual SIM support, top grade displays and fancy design.
Specific to the Indian market, Fly Mobiles is trying to satiate the needs of the smartphone generation with its ‘Qik’ series of smartphones. Its Qik+ is a sleek, stylish phone which comes with Mediatek 1.7 GHz octa core processor and features a 13 megapixel primary camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. My review unit came with a silver back with the volume button on the left side and power button on the right side of the unit. However, I found the rear flap to be too smooth and there is high probability of the phone slipping out of your hand.
Switched on, the Qik+ has a vibrant 12.7 cm (5-inch) HD screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (293 pixels per inch), which makes HD entertainment come alive in the palm of your hand.
It has a sleek design at 7.8 mm and stays powered for longer time with the powerful 2200 mAh battery. Qik+ is availabe to consumers at an affordable price of R6,999 only. This, company officials claim, makes it the cheapest 5-inch HD octa core smartphone in the market.
Fly Mobiles will offer a free upgrade to Android’s latest OS, Lollipop for Qik+ in the near future. The Qik series support FOTA for over-the-air upgrade to Lollipop. Also, the Qik series come with two free Screen Guard to protect the display.
Physically, this is a decently built phone and despite the 5-inch display, it is not hard to grip or hold. The performance, powered by the octa core processor is at par with other phones in its range. There are no issues with reception and call quality.
Overall, the Qik+ is a good phone given the features and its price point. It appears like a dependable device to own.
