Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg met IIT Delhi students today and spoke at what was his first townhall Q&A in India where he talked about net neutrality and Internet access. Below are the top 10 quotes from the event:

1. “Absolutely. Net neutrality is an important principle. We do a lot to support both in terms of regulation and in our own work building an open platform that any developer can build something for regardless of who they are if they follow the basic rules.”

2. “Internet.org and Facebook are 100 per cent supportive of net neutrality, we lobby for it across the world, we build an open platform with no filtering but at the same time we also need to make sure that we continue to push for access.”

3. “India is the world’s largest democracy and we have 130 million users here. Its a mission for us to help provide access to Internet.”

4. “What we are really trying to do is to use Free Basics (previously known as Internet.org) so that any developer who can give low bandwidth services for free can be zero-rated. That has been powerful, and provides a neutral platform without any filters.”

5. “People, before they start a company, should know what they are doing. Big companies started with something they cared about.”

6. “Facebook’s mission is giving the people the power to share. For all the people who don’t have access to schools, to have access to information online is important.”

7. “One of the great things about technology is you can build superpowers for the people around the world. One of the amazing things would be if you could put on the headset and connect with someone in a different way in another location and play ping-pong with that person. Or if could play ping pong in space or underwater, or anti-gravity. That is going to be pretty good.”

8. “In this golden age of Internet, the primary way we are going to share ideas is through videos. But as rich as the video is in terms of telling a story, people want an even richer medium.”

9. “We will prioritise stopping Candy Crush requests on Facebook.”

10. “When you have a mission to connect a billion people, you can’t do it without India.”
