Tesla has just announced its software update version 8.0 for its two models S and X. There have been quite a few changes, in which safety improvements for the Autopilot feature is the most notable one. The semi-autonomous driving vehicles will now be able to block drivers from using the car if not used responsibly. The new feature will lock out the drivers and not allow them to engage the Autopilot feature again unless the car is parked. The Autopilot alerts drivers so that they apply pressure on the steering wheel in order to maintain the system in an active state. If a certain amount of time goes without the driver heeding to the warning, the Autopilot system starts a 15-second abort procedure and slows down the vehicle to deactivation, till the driver places the hands.

The earlier method of alert was found to not be followed too much by owners. Therefore, the v8.0 version of Autopilot, along with the abort procedure and eventual disengage, will also block the owner from restarting the system. In case the driver ignores the alert, there will be two more beep alerts warning the driver, which will inform that the Autosteer will now be unavailable so that the driver has to take control of the steering. If the owner wants to start the Autopilot system again, he will have to park the car to set it on. Besides the latest safety feature upgrade, the Autopilot system will now mostly rely on the radar system in the vehicle, instead of cameras. Elon Musk has always come up with many ideas and introduced great features in the Teslas.

In 2013, a finger tap could help in adjusting the car’s suspension. In 2015, there was te traffic- awareness travel control. In 2015, the Autosteer and plan changing concept made way and in early 2016 self-parking and calling was also introduced. Though there have not been any big change in this upgrade, yet the smaller changes in previous innovation have made the Teslas a total package with killer functions.
