Donald Trump, the US President has been a Twitter favourite for a long time, more so after he was elected to the White House. While Trump has supporters, there are plenty of trolls who are regular in replying to each and every tweet of his. Now, Trump’s tweets have garnered such a massive response that the social media platform was not able to handle the tremendous pressure. According to reports, Twitter users have been complaining that their replies are separated from the original thread of comments and are disconnected from the Trump’s tweets as well.
While, many have called this an issue of censorship, but according to Ed Ho, the website’s Vice President of engineering claimed it to be just a technical glitch. Ho tweeted, “@dannysullivan @jack it’s due to the high number of replies, long-standing technical issue, we are working on a fix.” Trump’s tweet gathers so much public engagement that the Twitter’s technical infrastructure is not able to handle it many times and crashes. The social media giant has often been criticised for uneven handling when it comes to system loads.
According to a report in Fortune, “But the issue of the disconnected tweets is in some ways even more pernicious than the sitewide outages of yesteryear. Arguments that Twitter was censoring either pro- or anti-Trump tweets might not have been accurate, but they reflected a real erosion of faith in Twitter’s openness.” According to a Mashable report, similar issues have been witnessed by users while replying to Trump staffers Sean Spicer and Kellyanne Conway.
Such mishaps are undoubtedly going to be bad news for a company which is already beleaguered. It has said that it is working on a fix for the issue, but there is no specific time decided on when it will be resolved.
