Doctor on App: From Practo, MeraDoctor to Lybrate, top 5 to know

Finding a good doctor can prove to be quite tricky, especially if you are new to a place but your smartphone can make the job easy. Sudhir Chowdhary & Mohd Ujaley take a look at some of the mobile apps that help you choose from a large pool of doctors and make appointments online


Available for both Android and iOS devices, this app from Bangalore-based Practo Technologies helps mobile users find doctors, diagnostic labs, spas and salons, and fitness centres in their city. Users can find healthcare specialists in dental care, skin care, mental health, critical care medicine, naturopathy, speech therapy, surgical oncology, cardiology, among others.

The app even lets them book appointments on the go. It allows users to view details like clinic timings, consultation fees, the doctor’s qualifications, review from users and address before making an appointment. The app has a simple user interface which makes booking appointments and tracking previous appointments an easy task.


Lybrate helps you find the doctors based on their area of expertise, location and user ratings. It has a listing of doctors and clinics with an easy to search options. The app gives prime importance to user reviews. Based on user feedback, doctors or hospitals are rated and same information is passed on for recommendation. In addition, with the Lybrate app you can interact with the leading doctors and ask them about any health or fitness query. You can either consult a doctor online instantly or book an appointment to visit the clinic at your preferred time. Lybrate gives a user access to online medical professionals; it also has regular blogs from experts that give tips and advice on health and well being.


A highly rated medical app, MeraDoctor lets you invite your personal doctor into a medical team. You can then ask your own doctor any follow up questions or show them reports. It means once your doctor is on the platform,you don’t need to schedule a second clinic visit. Just open the app, share a picture of test reports and you are done. The app claims that records you share are completely secure. If you do not have a personal doctor that you visit regularly, or if your doctor is unavailable, MeraDoctor selects licensed doctors, nutritionists and counsellors and makes them available for chat consultations through the app. Each consultation is priced at Rs 150. The interface of the app is pretty similar to WhatsApp, which guarantees its ease of use. Its ‘Chat with Doctors’ service lets you ask a doctor questions purely for educational and informational purposes.


Take the help of Portea mobile app if you are on the lookout for ear, nose and tongue specialists, general physicians, paediatrics, gastroenterologist, cardiologist, endocrinologist, dermatologist, gynaecologist and pregnancy specialists. Basically, Portea helps you heal at home. It provides in-home doctors, physiotherapy professionals, nursing specialists, diagnostics services, medicines and trained attendants for different medical needs, all at a user’s place of convenience. With the help of the app, one can also chat with doctors, ask medical questions, get instant answers and health tips from qualified medical experts. You can also order medicines from the comfort of your home and avail discounts on prescription medicines.


Recently launched on Android, Prescribez from ThingsMeet Solutions is a one stop destination of all health related needs of people. Basically it is a consumer-centric health service aggregator, which makes collaboration between consumers and service providers like doctors, labs and pharmacies easy, by bringing them on one platform. It allows the users to search and avail health services in through the app in an easy and affordable way. More functions like lab tests scheduling, home visits etc are also on cards. The user interface of the app is simple and easy to use for both the end consumer and doctors and clinics. It already has 700 doctors from Pune on its platform and more than 25 pathology and diagnostics labs. Plans are afoot to launch the app in 10 metro cities in future.
