Like smartphones, the television segment is buzzing with new launches and huge price cuts, thanks to the entry of aggressive Chinese companies and home-grown television makers. Recently, Daiwa which is a brand of Videotex International, an Indian original design maker (ODM) that manufactures LED TV for a majority of leading brands, has launched a 55-inch Daiwa L55FVC5N smart TV in India. Priced at Rs 37,499, this smart TV comes with dual core processor with 1GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage. Out of the box, the TV follows the current design trend of slim bezels around the screen and offers full high-definition display with 1920×1080 pixels. In the box, along with the TV, you get one unit of remote, battery, wall mount and warranty card. The smart TV has simple and elegant design. On your wall, it will look like a big wallpaper, which is why the company claims it to be a “picture-on-the-wall” design. The key functional features ofa TV like HDMI port, USB port, power jack are placed in the lower bottom from the back side. Unlike traditional TV sets, where you struggle to even connect your USB, reaching out to the ports here is easy— you only need to tilt the TV without taking it off the wall.
At operating level, the L55FVC5N smart TV offers two app stores—Google Play Store and Aptoide store. There is a customised skin over Android 4.4. The interface is icon-based and user can install apps via the APK method as well as via the Google Play Store. The interface is easy to use and decent in performance—not the fastest but does not lag behind. You can access various apps, games, streaming videos and web searches either by connecting to your mobile or connecting your TV to Wi-Fi. All these will be navigated with the help of a remote which many users may find difficult to use for web surfing. To address this challenge, Daiwa is offering an in-built mouse for easy access; shortcut to entertainment apps and remote comes with two IR lenses for making it functional from a larger distance but that does not seem to be enough for web surfing.
The L55FVC5N smart TV is powered by a dual core processor with 1GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage. It comes with the HRDP technology, which improves the picture quality and makes the TV highly efficient in terms of power consumption. The TV offers great brightness and contrast plus the full HD resolution keeps visuals sharp. During the review period, we played graphic intensive games and watched HD videos without any stutter. The picture quality was great and even the upscaling of non-HD channels was good, something that you are unlikely to find in this price range. As far as audio quality is concerned, the TV offers a good audio experience with clear vocals and decent level of loudness. In terms of connectivity, the L55FVC5N smart TV comes with one RF, two AV-in, one PC Input (VGA), one PC Audio Input, two HDMI, two USB and one AV-out ports. Overall, the Daiwa L55FVC5N is a big smart TV with decent display and audio quality.
