China’s state-run newspaper has said that if ‘naive fool’ Donald Trump launches an all-out trade war against China, it would reply with counter-measures. During his campaign for presidential elections, Trump had continuously lashed out at China saying that Beijing will be punished with ‘defensive’ 45 percent tariffs on Chinese imports and officially declared a currency manipulator. President-elect Trump had then said,”When they see that they will stop the cheating. He accused China of doing ‘the greatest theft in the history of the world.’ An editorial came in a state-run newspaper right after Trump spoke to Chinese president Xi Jinping.
Global Times, a State-run newspaper warned the US that it would be a grave mistake to take such measures. It said that such a move by a ‘shrewd businessman’, to change tariffs will be replied with a tit-for-tat approach. The newspaper wrote, “If Trump wrecks Sino-US trade, a number of US industries will be impaired. Finally, the new president will be condemned for his recklessness, ignorance and incompetence. The paper added, “A batch of Boeing orders will be replaced by Airbus. US auto and iPhone sales in China will suffer a setback, and US soybean and maize imports will be halted. China can also limit the number of Chinese students studying in the US. Making things difficult for China politically will do him no good.”

Meanwhile, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang had reportedly said, “I believe that any US politician if he takes the interests of his own people first, will adopt a policy that is conducive to the economic and trade cooperation between China and the US.”
