The AsusPro Advanced BU401 has a chic look, fast performance and a capable spec sheet

AsusPro Advanced BU401 AsusPro Advanced BU401 offers a good blend between being a full-fledged laptop for business purpose, and a vital entertainment device for entertainment—surfing the internet, listening to music, watching a movie—in a seamless manner.

Laptops have changed dramatically in the past few years and if you haven’t noticed, ultrabooks are nowadays widely popular among working professionals and youngsters. Yes, I am referring to those thin and light notebook PCs generally preferred by users these days, for the simple reason that they are portable and serve better mobility not to mention their performance and battery, which is top-notch.

The AsusPro Advanced BU401 from the Taiwanese device maker Asus wants to take the ultrabook momentum further ahead. This new machine offers a good blend between being a full-fledged laptop for business purpose, and a vital entertainment device for entertainment—surfing the internet, listening to music, watching a movie—in a seamless manner. Security gets reinforced with Trusted Platform Module (TPM) hardware and fingerprint reading, while powerful 3rd gen Intel Core processors, Intel vPro Technology, and Intel Small Business Advantage add to efficient manageability.

Out of the box, the BU401 comes across as a nice-looking notebook computer. It is thin and light and has all the ingredients to empower a user with high productivity. We got the LA-CZ180G for review purpose, a customised model for businesses that assures working with peace of mind. Starting at only 1.64 kg with a 20 mm profile, its light weight belies the shock, drop and accident resistance the device offers. While I did not subject the computer to any type of fall-and-yet-survive testing, I must admit that the weight of 1.64 kg is amazingly low for a 14-inch device. The moot point is such dexterity makes it ideal for business people on the go. Asus has once again delivered a virtually impeccable product in terms of build, and thus it even outshines some more expensive contenders.

Moving on, this Asus machine comes in a smart and elegant design with a true-comfort keyboard, optimised touchpad and a dark brushed-hairline matte finish which gives it a professional look. Let me talk a little bit about the keyboard here. Working professionals place great importance on keyboards, as they are vital for professional communications. In this regard, Asus engineers have fine-tuned the BU series’s keyboard, providing better click ratios and travel distance. The touchpad has also been optimised, maintaining high precision while offering a bigger touch surface. All give business users superior productivity-enhancing experiences.

The BU401 might be just 20 mm thick, yet this slim design doesn’t mean reduced connectivity. It features full I/O: USB 3.0, VGA, HDMI, audio port, 2-in-1 card reader, and Kingston lock. Also, Asus stresses the professional orientation of its BU401 with a vast selection of different management and security features. Intel Identity Protection Technology adds a layer of hardware-based security, helping prevent unauthorised access to important business information stored on the computer. It is widely regarded by security experts as a more effective approach than software-only authentication. The 14-inch BU401 is powered by a 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5-4210U processor with Intel HD Graphics 4400 integrated GPU, it has 4 GB of RAM and 8 GB SSD storage, fingerprint sensor, HD front camera, HDMI, VGA and three USB 3.0 ports.

There are several reasons why the BU401 ultrabook should spark your interest: it has a slim, light and sexy metallic body. It has a capable spec sheet and has been designed for powerful performance. It can cope well with everyday work and entertainment-related activities. Basic activities like browsing with only several tabs opened, watching video content, editing documents, listening to music, chatting with your friends, etc—everything works fine on this Asus machine. However, I did encounter some hiccups when switching between the apps. Other than that, there is no reason to complain about the BU401.

In my summary, I would say that if you want a compact and light 14-inch laptop that runs completely quiet, offers a nice display and enough horsepower for daily chores, the BU401 could be the right device for you.
