ZenFone Max holds a massive (5000mAh) battery to let you do more online, watch longer video, and talk as much as you want. It will even charge your other devices

Taiwanese device maker Asus is back with a new phone from its widely popular ZenFone series. This is a mid-range, high performance smartphone called the ZenFone Max. This phone has a very clever trick up its sleeve: its enduring 5000mAh battery has the stamina and smarts to charge other devices. Just connect your gadget to turn ZenFone Max into an instant power bank for juicing up on the go. A big battery also means big benefits for you. It will let you do more online, watch longer video, and talk as much as you want. But this is a phone first, right? Therefore, let us check out some of the other features in this device.

In terms of its physical appearance, ZenFone Max is big on style with a high-sheen metal-effect bezel to capture attention wherever you go. Yes, it is surrounded by a striking metal-effect bezel that’s as stylish to behold as it is smooth to touch, so you’ll look sharp as it slips smoothly into your pocket or purse. With the look and feel of embossed leather, ZenFone Max is finished to be as beautiful as it is powerful. The phone’s rear etching provides great tactility for added grip.

Nowadays the design of a modern smartphone is usually dictated by the screen size, and in this case the 5.5-inch HD display means the ZenFone Max is quite a handful—the phone checks in at 77.5 x 156 x 10.55 mm (W x D x H) and isn’t the thinnest of devices. It does make its presence felt in the pocket and is somewhat bulky in the hand too. However, in actual use the phone is comfortable to hold and using it is not a difficult task.

Moving further, ZenFone Max has a beautiful 5.5-inch IPS display protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for good scratch-resistance, strength and everyday durability. Underneath is a 1280 x 720 HD IPS display that offers wide 178-degree viewing angles, with a very decent 267ppi pixel density that renders every image in eye-delighting detail. The phone features two SIM card slots in one device, allowing you to manage personal life and work easily.

Probing the innards, ZenFone Max is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, ample power for your daily tasks and activities. It has the latest 4G LTE advanced technology for the highest-ever mobile data speeds— upto a staggering 150Mbps. The phone has 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi built in, so you benefit from wireless connectivity that’s pretty fast.

The phone’s 13 megapixel PixelMaster camera has f/2.0-aperture lens that captures decent, high-resolution photos with zero shutter lag. The ultra-fast laser auto-focus feature greatly

reduces blurring and enhances image stabilisation, and the Low Light mode employs pixel-merging technology to capture up to 400% brighter photos at night or in low-light scenes—all without the need for a flash. Take my word, you’ll shoot sharp photographs at stupefying speed as well as record and edit HD video with minimal battery draw.

On the software front, ZenFone Max has a brand new Zen user interface which you can set to your liking. The Zen UI has more than 1,000 features that improve upon the standard Android interface. You’ll enjoy a simpler and smarter experience, with a stylish new layout that expands white space for a cleaner design, placing the information you need front and centre. In actual usage, you’ll find that this new user interface is simple, beautiful and pleasing to the eye with no clutter whatsoever. It knows your needs,

expresses your thoughts, and becomes an indispensable part of your life. Asus has done a great job of adding its own touch to Android.

During my time with the ZenFone Max, the phone came across as a nifty device that is powerful and versatile. I had no issues with making calls. Voices were clear and crisp. The phone’s speakers, however, can be a little soft, so you may miss calls or notifications if you are in a noisy place.

Internet browsing is fast on the device and there is no lag whatsoever while switching between apps. Its high definition screen will allow users to watch movies and play games in a manner that they have never seen before in a phone in this price-range. Let us not forget its monster battery; the phone can be used as a power bank to charge other devices, such as mobile phones, MP3 players etc.

Overall, a sturdy and powerful phone with one of the most powerful batteries around.
