The Apple Watch 2 has been rumored to release during or after the annual iPhone launch event in early September 2016. Though the rumours have mostly been about the next Apple smartphone, Ming Chi Kuo of the KGi Securities has released an investor note, suggesting the incoming Apple Watch variants. The Apple Watch 2 is speculated to have a thinner body than its predecessor and support the GPS, alongside a barometer. It is said to be powered by a 16nm processor from TSMC. Kuo suggested that the Apple Watch 2 will have a larger battery to accommodate the new components.
However, the significance of these updates remains to be seen. It is also being said that the Watch 2 has better waterproofing than the Apple Watch 1 and feature minimalistic design changes. Kuo has claimed that the tech giant will unveil another variant apart from the Apple Watch 2, featuring the same form factor as the current generation. The variant is expected to be available at a cheaper price and may just support LTE connectivity. Though big changes are expected in 2018, on the occasion of Apple’s 10-year anniversary celebrations.
It has to be mentioned that despite Kuo’s stellar records with these rumours, these are still speculations and need to be consumed with caution. The Apple Watch 2 and the next iPhone will be unveiled officially in less than a month.
