Apple stops signing iOS 11.2.2, earlier versions after releasing iOS 11.2.5

The users running iOS 11.2.5 on their devices will not be able to downgrade to the previous versions of iOS – iOS 11.2, iOS 11.2.1, or iOS 11.2.2 via iTunes. Apple last week released the iOS 11.2.5 to the public that features Siri enhancements, official support for the HomePod, and a bunch of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Apple has stopped signing three previous versions of iOS following the release of iOS 11.2.5 last week. As a result, the users running iOS 11.2.5 on their devices will not be able to downgrade to the previous versions of iOS – iOS 11.2, iOS 11.2.1, or iOS 11.2.2 via iTunes. Apple, in a bid to enable users to update their devices to the latest version, stops signing the older iOS versions, as per a report. The Cupertino-based company last week released the iOS 11.2.5 to the public that features Siri enhancements, official support for the HomePod, and a bunch of bug fixes and performance improvements.

According to a report by 9to5Mac, the iOS 11.2.2 or earlier versions are no longer available to download via iTunes store. This is likely to affect the jailbreaking processes where an old iOS version is superimposed on a newer version to escape from the security patches that come with the latter. “For instance, prior to today, a user running iOS 11.2.5 would have been able to downgrade to either 11.2, iOS 11.2.1, or iOS 11.2.2 through iTunes. That downgrading window is now closed,” 9to5Mac reported late on Wednesday.

Coinciding with the public release of iOS 11.2.5, the Cupertino-based giant started beta testing iOS 11.3, which includes features such as new Animoji, iMessages in the Cloud, AirPlay 2 including others. In addition to this, the iOS 11.3 will bring features such as giving users power to control and track the health of iPhone batteries, Augmented Reality (AR) upgrade, and a new Health Records feature. The iOS 11.3 beta is now available to download for the iOS Developer Program members. The stable iOS 11.3 release will begin in spring this year. The Battery Health feature is available for devices such as iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
