Apple just launched the iPhone X (ten) and it will take on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in the premium flagship market. Both the tech giants are in a neck to neck battle, as Samsung too announced the new smartphone in India on the same day as the global launch of iPhone X. The new iPhone is a dramatic change and a milestone in innovation when it compares to the first iPhone released by Steve Jobs. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Apple rolled out the iPhone X which packs within itself a host of features which are seen in most major premium mobiles. However, Samsung can still boast of a better and bigger display screen. The Samsung also has the hugely popular S Pen stylus. But the new iPhone too has better face recognition technology and new features like Animoji, AR and more. Here’s a look.

In a first, Apple iPhone X features an OLED display. It has a 5.8-inch screen with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels (458 ppi). However, Samsung is already using a sAMOLED panel. The smartphone has a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 display (521ppi). Even the infamous Galaxy Note 7 or the Galaxy S7, featured a Super AMOLED display, and even the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphones offer a Super AMOLED display. But this is Apple’s first iPhone with OLED. Even when it comes to brightness, Samsung defeats the iPhone X. While the Galaxy Note 8 has 1200 nits of brightness, iPhone X reaches a maximum of 625 nits, which is a unit of intensity of light. Having said that, even iPhone’s number is not bad compared to other premium smartphones.

Apple iPhone X is powered by the A11 Bionic processor. The company has claimed that it is 75 percent faster than the A10 Fusion processor used in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has the Samsung’s own processor in India, which is the powerful Exynos 8895 octa-core chipset. It is similar to the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. In terms of storage, Apple has got rid of the 32GB and 128GB variants of the iPhone this time. It will only come in a 64GB model and a 256GB version. Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is only available in a 64GB variant. However, users can expand the memory upto 256GB.

Apple iPhone X features a dual 12-megapixel camera setup. interestingly, both the lenses have Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), which is new. In the camera, these is a wide-angle lens with f/1.8 aperture, to enable better low-light photos, and a telephoto lens that can offer 2X optical zoom. It has an aperture of f/2.4. Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also has 12MP cameras with OIS on both. One of the lenses has f/1.7 and 2X optical zoom. So, when it comes to the camera, both the phones have similar cameras.

Samsung has a secure ecosystem in place in the Galaxy Note 8. With a fingerprint sensor at the rear end, a face recognition sensor on the front and an IRIS scanner, most of the features are good. Meanwhile, Apple introduced the Face ID, which launching the iPhone X. Using AI and facial recognition technology, it maps users face and builds a 3D model, which can also help you login to your device. The difference between the two smartphones is an Infrared sensor, TrueDepth Camera, dot projector and flood illuminator. This will ensure that hackers cannot use any kind of trick to open your smartphone.

USB Type C is one of the fastest connectors today. Initial rumours had suggested that Apple may finally get rid of the Lightning port for charging and introduce the USB Type C. However, after the launch of the iPhone X it is clear that Apple has gone with the Lightning port as seen in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. It is interesting to note that even MacBooks now use the USB Type C. In comparison, all other flagship devices in the market now uses the USB Type C connector, including the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

In India, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been priced at Rs 67,900. When it comes to the iPhone X, it comes with a price tag of Rs 89,000 for the 64GB model. Meanwhile, the 256GB variant costs a whopping Rs1,02,000.
