Amazon.in on Tuesday launched its Prime subscription service in India in over 100 cities to enable free one-day and two-day deliveries to its customers. Prime is available in many countries around the world, but after 3 years, Amazon has brought Amazon Prime to India. Users can sign up for Amazon Prime, starting with a 60-day free trial. If you sign up now, Amazon Prime will cost Rs 499 for a year after the 60 day trial, though the usual price for Amazon Prime in India will be Rs 999 per year.

“For sellers, Fulfillment by Amazon is now an even more powerful opportunity to rapidly grow their business and at the same time, provide customers across India with vast selection and unlimited fast free Prime delivery,” Amit Agarwal, Vice-President & Country Head, Amazon India said. Amazon Prime delivery benefits will be available to customers in 20 cities across India. For deliveries to cities not yet eligible for one-day or two-day delivery, members will receive free delivery with no minimum purchase.

Here’s what your money will get you in India:

  • Guaranteed, free, 1-day or 2-day delivery.
  • Discounted same-day, scheduled and morning delivery in select cities.
  •  30-minute early access to Lightning deals (A Lightning Deal is a promotion in which a limited number of discounts are offered on an item for a short period of time) and member-only exclusives

Punit Soni also commented on this development on Twitter:

Amazon Prime Videos is also headed to India and will be available for those buying into the service now. In markets like the US, this means original and exclusives shows as well as popular movies. One caveat, but an expected one, is that Amazon Prime benefits only apply to Amazon fulfilled products. Other eligible products will be marked with an Amazon Prime logo.
