Tata Motors has entered into an exclusive agreement with Microsoft India to provide a high-tech driving experience using the internet of things and advanced machine learning tools from the technology giant to enhance productivity and security of its customers.

Tata Motors will use Microsoft’s connected vehicle technologies on Azure’ intelligent cloud to bring the digital lives of customers into the car. Besides, the company will use Microsoft’s user interface application and services to provide advanced navigation, predictive maintenance, telematics and remote monitoring features.

Drivers can now book tickets, buy food, get a parking space, and check the health of their cars without moving their hands from the steering. The car can be unlocked and lights switched-on from inside the house itself using the user interface applications of Microsoft, Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD of Tata Motors, said.

The first vehicle showcasing the vision for these enhanced driving experiences will be unveiled at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show on March 7. Tata Motors believes the ecosystem for such a technology is fast catching-up, and the venture would help it start new revenue streams.

Tata Motors would strive to be part of the smart cities project after this venture’s success, Butschek said.
