Tata Motors on Monday announced the appointment of Guenter Butschek as the chief executive officer and managing director for its India and overseas operations including South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and South Africa.
Butschek will join the company by February 15 and will also become a member of the board of directors.
Butschek joins Tata Motors from French aircraft manufacturing Airbus Group where he served as chief operating officer and member of the group executive committee.
Ravindra Pisharody and Mayank Pareek – the respective heads of the commercial and passenger vehicles units – will henceforth report directly to Guenter Butschek.
This move comes as boost for Tata Motors as it is trying to revive its passenger vehicles units and expand its leadership in the commercial vehicle segment in the domestic market.
Prior to Airbus, Butschek worked at Daimler AG, where he gained more than two and a half decades of experience in different aspects of international automotive management like production, industrialisation and procurement.
Butschek graduated in business administration and economics with a diploma from the University of Cooperative Education Stuttgart, Germany.
Tata Motors is expected to launch its latest offering Zica in 2016 and the company is expected to launch two new passenger vehicles every year till 2020.
