Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces, part of the Tata Group, on Wednesday said it is committed to develop hotel and tourism industry in the North-eastern region as it launched its upscale hotel brand “Vivanta by Taj” in Guwahati.
The 150-room property has been built at a cost of Rs. 165 crore. This is the 31st hotel under Vivanta brand in India. And this is the first Taj hotel in the North-East region.
Commenting after the launch of the hotel, Tata Group chairman Cyrus Mistry said, “This is a landmark development in Assam and the North East…It will also be a natural gateway for us and other Indian businesses to access the markets with which India has a long-term relationship–Bhutan, Bangladesh, Thiland, Myanmar and China.”
Descriced Vivanta by Taj here as the ”prime property”, Mistry said it would promote tourism in Assam, other parts of the North East and in the neighbouring countries.
