Spotify to acquire SoundCloud?

A formal announcement to this effect will be made soon as per media reports. The negotiation for acquisition comes months after SoundCloud launched its paid service.

Looks like the days of the free users of SoundCloud are counted as Spotify is in an advanced level of talks to acquire the free service. A formal announcement to this effect will be made soon as per media reports. The negotiation for acquisition comes months after SoundCloud launched its paid service.

Spotify, a market leader in paid streaming business has a subscriber of over 40 million paid users whereas its nearest competitor is Apple Music has a subscriber base of nearly 17 million paid users. Sound Cloud’s paid service have not attracted much consumers ever since it launched in March this year. However Sound Cloud has mamoth non paid subscribers amounting to as much as 175 million.

Sound Cloud is unique in its own ways specially in terms of collection of music tracks. It has as many as 125 million tracks which is by far the largest among existing service providers. It also gives freedom to the users to upload their own tracks without having to go through any middle men. This has resulted in emerging artists posting their demos on the platform, DJs publishing mix sets, and consumers uploading bootleg recordings.
