Gurgaon-based low cost airline SpiceJet on Tuesday announced increased frequencies in existing sectors and upgraded seat capacity on various routes across the domestic and international network to service additional demand during the winter months.
In order to attract more passengers during the winter season the airline decided to add ten new flights to the existing domestic routes. As part of the renewed winter schedule, SpiceJet decided to start its fourth daily flight on the Chennai to Kochi route and a second direct flight to Vijaywada from Bengaluru and Hydrabad.
The Ajay Singh led airline has also added its third and fourth daily flight between Chennai and Hyderabad as part of its effort to expand the operations.
“We are always looking at ways to improve our network capacity so that we can continue to offer the best possible services to our customers while providing them with more flexibility. Our current enhanced schedule comes in time to add considerable depth to our existing network,” said Shilpa Bhatia senior vice president, commercial, SpiceJet.
In order to take advantage of the high demand in the domestic market during the winter season, the airline has also increased the seating capacity on select domestic routes by upgrading the aircraft from Bombardier Q400 which has a seating capacity of 78 seats to Boeing 737 which can accommodate 186 passengers. The Boeing 737 aircrafts will be operational for six days a week on routes such as Delhi-Varanasi and Delhi-Dehradun among others.
On the international network, the airline will be increasing its frequencies on the Delhi-Kabul route by increasing the operations from three days a week to five days a week. The enhanced flight schedule for this route would be effective from February 8.
Currently SpiceJet operates 296 flights to 34 domestic and six international destinations.
