Rapid advances in technology have triggered an exponential growth for the robot industry in the past few years, says Debashis Das, the CEO of homegrown consumer robotics brand—Milagrow. According to him, a Japan Robot Association report released a few years back predicted that the personal robot industry will eclipse $50 billion in its annual worth by 2025. Given the rate at which the industry is growing, though, that estimate looks extremely conservative. More than 8.6 million service robots were estimated to be in use in 2008, while 2014 alone saw 4.7 million units being purchased.
“Robotics technology is increasing at a fast rate, providing us with solutions for home chores,” says the Milagrow CEO. He reckons that industrial robots need to be deactivated when a human approaches but domestic robots have to interact with people. As a result, they require more complex safety concepts to ensure operation, perhaps even going as far as proximity sensors and tactile skin. “Not every robot of the future will look like a human, many robots will follow in the footsteps (or wheel tracks) of service robots like Milagrow’s vacuuming RedHawk,” he says.
Milagrow pioneered the domestic robots space in India and launched its floor cleaning robots in 2012. “Milagrow is an Indian company building consumers insights and investing in technology, time and resources to provide best possible benefits to the consumer. We launched the Milagrow Aguabot in December 2015 which not only has auto-charging and scheduling, but it is the only product in the robotic floor cleaner category to have a dry mop plus disinfection plus wet mop technology together in a single robot.” He informs: “This was done specially for Indian consumers where wet mopping is critical. With our understanding of the Indian consumer, we will always strive to bring in products that will be one up on innovation and features.”
