Reliance Jio which took the telecom industry by storm had a subscriber base of 108.9 million on its network as of 31st March 2017 it said. Of these 108.9 million subscribers, 72 million were its prime subscribers. According to the company’s press release, Jio hosts 110 crore GB of data traffic per month and 220 crore voice and video calls a day.
The company grew at a breakneck speed since the official rollout of services on 5 September 2016 and crossed 50 million subscribers in just 83 days, and 100 million in 170 days, adding at an average rate of six lakh subscribers per day. Jio says it continues its rapid ramp-up of the subscriber base.
Jio said that in the coming months, the company will add another 100,000 towers to the existing network of 100,000 mobile towers which it has created with an investment of Rs 1.79 Lakh Crore. Jio is the only operator to have deployed pan-India LTE network across the 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2300MHz bands, giving it a tremendous capacity advantage. “Jio users are today consuming nearly as much data as on all the mobile networks in the USA and 50% more data than mobile networks in China” the company said.

The telecom major had earlier this year launched Jio Prime Membership for its initial customers. Jio Prime members are getting increased usage at a lower price for a one-time enrollment fee of Rs 99. Within a month of announcing the Jio Prime Offer, over 72 million Jio customers signed up for Jio Prime.
Jio further announced its Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan plans of Rs 309 and Rs 509. Rs 309 plan offers unlimited SMS, calling and data (1GB per day at 4G speed) for 3 months on the first recharge. Similarly, the Rs 509 plan offers same benefits with 2GB per day data. Jio’s recently launched International roaming service which is now available across the world
“In order to smoothen the migration from free to paid services, Jio has implemented simple, affordable and regulatory compliant plans in customer interest,” Reliance said in its press release.
