The initial response for Reliance Jio’s 4G feature phone has been positive with 6 million handsets being booked across the country as well as getting expression of interest (EoI) for another 10 million. The company is planning to start the deliveries from September 21, retailers in the know of things said. However, Jio has stopped the booking process temporarily due to its servers not being able to handle the huge consumer response when the bookings opened on August 24, but customers can continue to register their interest and will be notified on a priority basis when the process resumes, they added. The deliveries of the Jio Phones will commence during Navratri, which starts from September 21, sources said.
Jio did not respond to queries on the bookings and delivery date for the 4G feature phone. In July, Reliance Jio unveiled the 4G feature phone that will be given to consumers for free, albeit with a `1,500 security for three years, with a base tariff of `153 per month, which offers free local and national calls as well as 0.5 GB data per day.
The Jio Phone sports a 2 megapixel rear camera and a front VGA camera. It will have a 512 MB RAM and 4 GB internal storage with the option of expanding it to 128 GB using an SD card. The handset will come with a 2,000 mAh battery and will have a 2.4 inch screen.
