PC shipments plunge 7.4%; HP becomes No.1 in India

Personal computer (PC) shipments in India declined by 7.4% for the first quarter of 2016 to a total 2 million units when compared to the corresponding period last year, according to Gartner.

Personal computer (PC) shipments in India declined by 7.4% for the first quarter of 2016 to a total 2 million units when compared to the corresponding period last year, according to Gartner.

In terms of market share, HP regained its number position for the first quarter of 2016 accounting for 25% followed by Dell and Lenovo. In fact, Lenovo was in the first place in the fourth quarter of 2015 driven by its share in government contracts.

“Consumers accounted for 45% of total PC sales in the first quarter of 2016, down from 48% in the first quarter of 2015,” said Vishal Tripathi, research director at Gartner.

There was a decline in both the enterprise and consumer segments in buying in the first quarter of 2016.
