While Ubers and Olas are slugging it out in a fiercely competitive intra-city taxi market, the inter-city long distance travel still remains unattended. Start-up company WiwiGo Technologies is making the best of this space available to them. It has banked on its ‘one-way taxi rental’ service offering which reduces travel cost by up to 60% for customers compared to the round-trip charges prevalent in this market.
WiwiGo, founded by Sunil Chaula and Nilesh Pawaskar, has been operating for the last ten months and built up a base of 55,000 users with 7,000 cabs from 600 vendors doing 2,500 transactions a month on 100 routes across 49 cities. The Delhi-Chandigarh, Mumbai-Pune and Bengaluru-Chennai sector emerging as top performing routes for WiwiGo.
The lack of credible players was palpable with few organised players in this segment and a pan-India player was needed, says founder and CEO Chaula. “Wiwigo’s engine can predict probability of a return trip and guarantee this to the driver while offering one-way charges to the customers. This is a completely automated process unlike the manual systems used by this segment,” says Chaula.
According to Pawaskar, they have built enough credibility to win over approval of on-line travel aggregators such as MakeMyTrip.com, Yatra.com, Ixigo.com and Sita. They have had problems with other vendors in the long distance taxi service, these OTAs have signed up with us, Pawaskar said.
“After experimenting with vehicle vendors who either unreliable or irregular with cancellation and hidden charges which affected the OTA’s brand equity so they were looking for credible alternatives,” he said.
