Bharti Airtel's deal with Hotstar on Monday will help the company to bolster its content portfolio. The deal is also expected to expand the footprint of Hotstar in India, riding on the back of an extended mobile customer base of telecom major Airtel.
After entering into a deal with Amazon Prime earlier this year, Bharti Airtel on Monday announced a strategic partnership with Hotstar to bolster its content portfolio. The deal is expected to expand the footprint of Hotstar in India, riding on the back of an extended mobile customer base of Airtel -India’s largest telecommunications services provider. Airtel already has entered into deals with Eros Now, SonyLIV and HOOQ to enrich its large content base. Airtel TV now has access to 350 plus LIVE TV channels and nearly 10,000 movies from both India and abroad. Bharti Airtel shares were trading at Rs 426.50 up by 0.95 percent at NSE at the time of reporting.
Airtel TV app is providing free content as a part of promotional offer till June 2018 to its prepaid and postpaid customers. In order to access the content, customers need to download the latest version of the app. All the customers can avail around 100,000 hours of content from Hotstar’s library that includes 9 languages.
Commenting on the deal, Sameer Batra CEO, Wynk said the partnership with Hotstar will help the company to build a world-class digital content ecosystem. The latest version of Airtel TV app has received a very positive response and company will keep offering exciting content along with in-app innovations to its customers, he added. There are natural synergies between the two companies and we are very excited about this partnership, said Ajit Mohan, CEO, Hotstar. Airtel’s large footprints in India when combined with expansive content library of Hostar can easily cater to different age groups, interests and geographies, he added.
The Hotstar catalogue that is available to Airtel TV users includes movies and shows even in regional languages such as Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. Hotstar, that is the largest premium streaming platform in India, holds over 100,000 hours of drama and movies, and coverage of all the major international sporting events in its portfolio.
