On Thursday, Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, launched a new variant of its best-selling SUV, the Q3 1.4 TFSI FWD (front-wheel drive). Until now, the Q3 was available only in diesel variants—the Q3 2.0 TDI FWD and the Q3 2.0 TDI quattro. (Quattro is the all-wheel drive system in Audi cars.) This also marks the debut of the petrol engine in the popular Audi Q range.

Previously, Audi offered petrol engines in the Q range between 2012-14. The Q3 and Q5 came with the 2.0 TFSI engine, and the company’s biggest SUV, the Q7, came with the 3.0 TFSI. But these were not very popular with customers, so were discontinued.

This time, the focus is both on power and fuel-efficiency, so the company has introduced the small 1.4-litre engine in the Q3. It produces a maximum power of 150bhp and has a claimed mileage of 16.9kpl.

Among other things, petrol offerings in the Q range expand Audi’s portfolio and increase its reach to a wider audience.

The Q3 1.4 TFSI FWD is priced Rs 32.2 lakh, ex-showroom, New Delhi.
