Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched the Moto e3 Power version in India at a starting price of Rs 7,999 exclusively on Flipkart. Motorola says Moto E’s older versions have a combined user base of three million-plus in India, and it is hoping the latest phone will help them upgrade.
The USP of the Moto e3 Power is the 3500 mAh battery which comes with fast-charging support; Motorola promises 5 hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charge. The Moto e3 Power is being seen as a competitor against Xiaomi’s Redmi 3S, which offers a bigger 4100 mAh battery at a lower price.
“I don’t think companies have been successful looking at what the competition is doing. In India, battery is a big deal, even in a place like Delhi or Gurgaon you may get very erratic power supply, so because we had a version that had higher battery, we thought it makes more sense to bring,” said Amit Boni, Motorola’s India country head, in an interaction with IndianExpress.com.
“With the rapid charging that we’ve brought to the table, the Moto e3 Power is even better; it makes product sense to do something like that, rather than just because of competition,” he added. Boni also confirmed that Motorola will explore the offline channel in India. The brand started the online smartphone craze in India two years ago with the Moto G in 2014, which was a Flipkart exclusive.
“You’ll see us playing across both channels in offline and online as well. Having said that, we were the guys who started the whole revolution of online; so it will stay an extremely important part of our brand personality, but you will see us increasingly play in the offline space as well,” said Boni. Boni was non-committal on whether they would move the more premium phones offline too. The high-end Moto X Force was available offline as well in India when it launched last year.
