The strike orchestrated by a section of Flipkart and Myntra’s delivery teams in Mumbai demanding facilities like toilets and fixed working hours went into the ninth day on Tuesday, even as a meeting scheduled to discuss this issue was called off on Tuesday.

About 400 delivery boys are reportedly on strike since last Monday, stalling the delivery of more than 40,000 packages, according to sources. Ekart, which handles all the delivery for Flipkart and Myntra, on Tuesday said, “We are continuing to engage with the employees involved to reach an amicable conclusion. Our operations in Mumbai are running normally.”

“Flipkart had agreed for a meeting on Tuesday evening in front of the local police. But it cancelled the meeting later,” Sachin Gole, secretary, Maharashtra Navnirman Kamgar Sena, told FE.

The Sena has registered 200 delivery boys of Flipkart and Myntra, who are on strike, as their members with the promise to “fight for their rights”.

“We are getting calls from delivery boys from all over Maharashtra to join us and start an agitation against the company’s behaviour towards them,” Gole added.

He alleged that the company has not given a raise to the delivery personnel for the last two years. “People who were hired at Rs 8,000 in 2012 have recently got a raise of Rs 1,500,” he said.

He added that if the company does not agree to meet soon, the party will plan to stop the business in Maharashtra.

“Raj sahib is going to make a comment soon on this. We are discussing to stop their business in Maharashtra, as the company is not ready to negotiate,” he said. “A few workers (less than 2%) have been misguided by motivated interests, however this has not affected any deliveries. Our delivery team has one of the best salary and benefits structures in the industry and we provide the best facilities to our staff,” Ekart said.
