The global doghnout chain, Krispy Kreme is turning 79 today and is offering up a pretty sweet deal to customers in the US. Vernon Rudolph, the founder, 79 years ago began selling his doughnuts made with a 'secret' recipe to local stores. The smell of freshly fried dough spread and people started stopping by asking to buy Rudolph's yeast-raised product. In the year 1937, he started selling the 'Original Glazed doughnut!' from his house. But later with growing popularity in 1963 automation took over. Nevertheless, the recipe of the Orignal Glazed doughnut hasn't changed. It is widely believed that the recipe stays in a vault at the headquarters of Krispy Kreme in Winston-Salem. We're 79 (553 in dog years)! On 7\/13 buy any dozen, get a 2nd Original Glazed dozen for 79\u00a2. #KKBday (US\/CAN) pic.twitter.com\/jW7j85yyB7 \u2014 krispykreme (@krispykreme) July 6, 2016 Krispy Kreme is offering its US customers a deal to celebrate this day in which if a customer buys a dozen doughnuts at one of its outlets, the person will get a second dozen original glazed doughnuts for just $0.79.
