On the back of a steep fall in the jet fuel price, SpiceJet and Jet Airways on Thursday launched a three-day flash sale, offering tickets for as low as Rs 799 on the domestic routes.
No-frills carrier SpiceJet, which is offering 100,000 seats under the discounted offering, will also provide additional 10% discount on mobile app bookings. “The one-way fare for this sale ranges from Rs 799 to Rs 2,699 and covers popular destinations such as Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, Srinagar, and many more,” the airline said.
“The lowest fare of Rs 799 is available on routes such as Delhi-Chandigarh, Mumbai-Goa, Bengaluru-Kochi, Madurai-Chennai, Jammu-Srinagar, Kolkata-Agartala and many more,” it added.
Jet fuel prices have fallen by more than 25% during the last 10 months, which has led to many airline reporting profits for the quarter that ended on June 30. SpiceJet’s three day sale (between August 20 and 25) covers the travel period between August 25 and March 26.
“Jet Airways and SpiceJet have launched an airfare sale with ticket prices starting from as low as Rs 799. The three day sale is an attempt to win over travellers by giving an extremely attractive offer and stimulate advance bookings for the upcoming long weekends in September and October and the entire festive season,” said online travel portal Yatra’s president Sharat Dhall.
“The sale has been extremely well received by travellers and within hours of the sale announcement bookings have increased by over 300% over what we normally receive. In fact mobile bookings have grown by 478 % indicating that people are rising book tickets at these fares,” Dhall said. Other airlines are expected to follow suit soon, he added.
