There are luxury cars, and then there is Lexus. On Friday, the Japanese luxury car player owned by Toyota debuted in India, with a hybrid-focused line-up. It launched three models: the RX 450h (hybrid SUV), ES 300h (hybrid sedan), and LX 450d (diesel SUV).

The RX 450h will be available in two variants (Luxury for Rs 1.07 crore and F-Sport for Rs 1.09 crore), and the ES 300h is priced Rs 55.27 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The price of the LX 450d will be announced later. Because these are CBU imports—Completely Built-up Unit—they are priced higher than the competition. These will be sold at the four showrooms the company has opened in New Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

The company also showcased the LX—the full-size luxury car that is its flagship model. If there is enough demand, the company could bring more products to India. Akitoshi Takemura, senior vice-president, Lexus India, noted, “This is just the beginning. We look forward to bringing more exciting products to India.”

In India, Lexus will compete with the German trio of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover.
