In a first of its kind offer, the country’s third largest telecom operator, Idea Cellular, has announced a cashback of Rs 2,000 for all its prepaid and postpaid subscribers who purchase a new 4G smartphone beginning Friday. Under Idea’s latest offer, all postpaid customers who opt for the Nirvana voice combo plans starting at Rs 389 for a duration of 36 months will be eligible for the Rs 2,000 cashback. Prepaid customers need to do a recharge of Rs 199 or above, every month, to be eligible for the cashback. This special recharge offers free local and STD calls, 1.4 GB per day and 100 SMSes daily. But those customers who recharge with long validity plans like Rs 398, Rs 449, Rs 459 and Rs 509 are not required to recharge every month with the Rs 199. To avail the cashback, prepaid subscribers have to do a recharge of Rs 3,000 in the first 18 months to avail a cashback of Rs 750, followed by a similar recharge for the next 18 months to avail the second part of the cashback of Rs 1,250. The offer is available till April 30, 2018.
Idea’s chief marketing officer Sashi Shankar said, “The primary barrier for 4G adoption has been 4G handset affordability. The focus is on upgrading the customer to 4G by making 4G handsets more affordable.” The Aditya Birla Group firm’s latest offer counters a similar one by Reliance Jio announced on February 16, where the operator is giving a cashback of Rs 2,200 to all existing and new customers who purchase a 4G smartphone from any of the 22 handset manufacturers it has partnered.
