Hindustan Unilever announces major changes in management

Hindustan Unilever on Friday announced certain changes in its management by changing the responsibilities of two key executives. Accordingly, Samir Singh, currently vice-president and executive director, personal care, will be taking over as the global executive vice-president, skin cleansing at parent Unilever. Sandeep Kohli will succeed Singh as vice-president and executive director, personal care. Kohli is currently vice-president, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

“Samir Singh led the HUL Personal Care (PC) business to not just consolidate its position as the country’s largest personal care company, but also drove it to become one of the fastest growing beauty businesses in India,” HUL said in a statement.

Sanjiv Mehta, chief executive officer and managing director, HUL said, “The new appointments emphasises the importance of HUL and of India for Unilever. Under Samir’s leadership, we have accelerated the pace of innovations, built a digital and content development strategy and created new business models for India which will strengthen the PC business for the future.”

Samir Singh joined Unilever in 1997 as a management trainee in India. He has worked across many brands including Fair & Lovely, Vaseline, Ponds, and has also worked in Foods in Customer Development in India. Before his appointment as the executive director, Personal Care in HUL, Samir has been the Global Brand vice-president for Lifebuoy and a member of the Global Category Leadership Team for Skin Cleansing. In this role, he has led global strategy, innovation and communication for Lifebuoy in more than 30 key countries across the world. Samir was also the Personal Care Cluster Lead for South Asia in 2014.

Sandeep Kohli, currently vice president, Myanmar Cambodia and Laos started his career as a management trainee in Hindustan Unilever in1993 after completing an MMS from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute, Mumbai. He worked across the HPC and Foods businesses in HUL. In 2004, he moved to the Philippines as the Head of Marketing, Foods.

In 2007-08, he became the Global Brand Director, Savoury based in UK, after which, he joined the South East Asia and Australasia Leadership Team as vice president, marketing operations.
