In an attempt to further its turnaround time in deliveries, home grown e-commerce major Flipkart is expanding the initiative of providing its in-house built warehouse technology solution for sellers to more locations in the country. Called the smart fulfilment solution, Flipkart has launched this in three cities – Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad in October last year, where more than 100 sellers came on board. Talking on FE, Anil Goteti, head – marketplace, Flipkart said, “We are providing a mini-warehouse solution for our sellers where they can track their products efficiently, automate workflow and get a full inventory view.”
The e-commerce major is planning to expand this initiative aggressively and could add another dozen cities in the country soon. Flipkart which operates as an marketplace model has a large number of sellers on its platform spread across the country and many of them did not have the modern warehouse practices which could have ensured that products are shipped in a faster manner at lesser costs.
According to Goteti, the smart fulfillment solution has created an win:win situation with higher rating for the sellers as they have more clarity on the availability of stocks in their warehouses and it also gives the consumer a more accurate time on the delivery.
For now, the early adopters of the smart fullfilment solution have been the sellers from the fashion, home and electronic accessories segments.

Flipkart is prioritising the kind of sellers who will come on to this technology platform.
Goteti said, “We are being careful with whom we enable this solution and now it has been largely for the gold silver, bronze sellers of ours.” The categorisation of sellers is based on the their orders, quality of products and fulfillment standards.
Sellers play a key role in any e-commerce marketplace and the quality of this group also matters for maintaining the interest of the online consumers.
Goteti said, “Those who are serious about our business will move into smart fulfilment.”
