Flipkart sold one million products in 10 hours despite a technical glitch on day 1 of 'Big Billion Days' sale.
Flipkart sale kicked off on Tuesday with its ‘Big Billion Days’ deals, where the e-commerce giant is offering heavy discounts on smartphones, home appliances, laptops, books, apparels across 70+ product categories.
Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Days’ started with 15-20 minute long technical glitch due to a high surge of traffic at midnight. However, the ecommerce major was able to fix it successfully in due course and sold 10 lakh products in a 10-hour span on Tuesday.
The sale that started on October 13 will continue till October 17, with a new category being introduced every day. Day 1 of the sale was on fashion category where it Flipkart offered big discounts on apparels, shoes and cosmetic products. On day 2 (today), home appliances will add to the list. Day 3 will see sale on smartphones and mobile accessories. Day 4 and 5 will add electronics and books respectively.
Flipkart is doing everything to make its ‘app only sale’ bigger and better and for this it has included Myntra products in the sale. The company has also announced the ‘Big Billion Game’ where it will offer a holiday to Goa and several cash offers to its customers. SBI, Standard Chartered, Citi and Axis Bank customers will also be getting an extra 10% off.
Flipkart has worked up a special training schedule and manpower ecosystem programme to avoid a re-run of last year’s technical and logistical glitches. Launched about two months ago, the e-commerce major has already reached out to over 6,000 sellers across the country through the two initiatives – ‘Flipkart Seller Campus’ and ‘Flipkart Helping Hands’.
While Amazon’s ‘Great India festive sale’ period is same as Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Days’, Snapdeal had gone a step ahead by starting its ‘Electronics Monday’ sale a day earlier, where it offered discounts on Apple iPhone 6, Google Nexus 5 among other electronic products.
