The public enterprise selection board (PESB) will meet on November 18 to take a call on the matter of selection of chairman and managing director of Coal India. The PESB along with coal secretary Anil Swarup will interview 12 shortlisted candidates for the final selection.
The post has been lying vacant after erstwhile chairman Narsing Rao resigned in May to take up the position of principal secretary in the government of Telangana. Meanwhile, additional secretary AK Dubey has been discharging the additional charge of CMD of the company since June 26.
The list of shortlisted candidates includes three officers of the Indian administrative service (IAS) currently serving in the governments of Manipur, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. A majority of the candidates (5) are officials of CIL and its subsidiaries. One official each from Steel Authority of India, National Mines Development, government of Jharkhand and Indian Railway Traffic Service round off the list of candidates.
“The board is likely to take into account the latest vigilance profile of all the candidates before arriving at a final decision,” a government official said, adding that the coal secretary’s recommendations will also be factored in.
