On a day the party scripted history by winning a staggering 67 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, a large number of AAP supporters from various states were a part of the spontaneous outburst of revelry.

In an attempt to imitate party chief Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘mufflerman” look, 80-year-old HC Gautam from Mumbai was riding a bicycle with two brooms mounted on it, with the signature cap and a muffler in place.

The bicycle had two large posters of Kejriwal, one each on front and rear, that read: “The curious case of Mufflerman; Dilli ka rakhvala.”

In a quivery yet powerful voice, Gautam, a retired railway official, said, “I am not a celebrity. I am a common man of the common world,” as other supporters gathered around him putting in words of praise for the AAP chief.

“Mumbai se aaya hun par Mumbaikar nahi hun. Main Bharatkar hun. Kejriwal humein wahi azaadi dilwaayega jo Gandhiji ne angrezon se li thi,” he added, pointing towards Kejriwal’s poster on his chest. “Ye dekho, mera dil, Kejriwal.”

Another supporter who immediately grabbed all attention was Srinivas Rao from Telangana.

Rao, an Arjuna awardee in Badminton in the physically handicapped category, was extremely vocal in his support for AAP.

Congratulating the people of Delhi for their victory, he said, “I salute the people of Delhi for bringing AAP to power here. Now, people must also bring AAP to power across the nation.”

Later, as a large contingent of AAP supporters were making their presence felt with repeated sloganeering, a massive broom appeared at a distance across the street, perhaps symbolic of the party’s rise.
