Chelsea skipper John Terry has been ruled out of this week’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Manchester City due to hamstring injury.
The central defender was sidelined from his side’s 1-2 defeat against Paris Saint Germain in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League match due to the injury, which he initially suffered during Chelsea’s Premier League win over Newcastle.
Confirming the news, manager Guus Hiddink said that the central defender would not be fit for this weekend, adding that he hopes that Terry would be available to play against Southampton, Sport24 reported.
In Terry’s absence, Branislav Ivanovic has been called in to the squad as a replacement.
Terry, whose contract with Chelsea will expire at the end of the season, will make his 700th appearance for the club when he will come to the field again.
Chelsea will lock horns with the Manuel Pellegrini-led side at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
