Chat apps: From Flock to Teamchat, 4 team messenger apps you can talk business on.

Nowadays many enterprises depend on messaging apps such as WhatsApp for day-to-day team communication and engagement. However, many people feel that such platforms tend to intrude into one’s personal space. Rashi Varshney picks some team messenger apps, which merge multiple enterprise-focused features into a single mobile app.
Flock
Flock allows colleagues to chat with their counterparts in an easy manner. Developed by Indian tech firm Directi, this app is available for free on all major mobile operating systems. Once you sign in using your work email ID, all your official contacts are auto-synced and appear in the contact list. Apart from the basic features of text, audio and video chat and sharing files, the app allows users to manage teams and even share screen within the app. It also offers real-time polling feature, for example, if there is an office party at night, one can create a poll on how many are willing to come for it. The app has crossed 5 lakh downloads, and has more than 25,000 companies as customers. It can even be upgraded with a reasonable fee for advanced admin controls.
Slack
Slack is another widely popular team communication app with installs on the Android Play Store at 10-50 lakh. It brings team communication, along with ability to organise conversations by topics, projects, or anything else that matters. The app lets you call a person or a group within the team. Apart from sharing documents via the app, it also allows one to edit them. A company can integrate workflow, Google Drive, Salesforce, Dropbox, Twitter, Zendesk, and more within the app. Slack also sports a search box to find automatically archived data and files within the app. However, Slack users have to be invited to a group to be able to start conversations.
HipChat
HipChat offers standard business communication features such as drag and drop file sharing, group messaging, video and audio chats, categorising chats, bookmarking. The app lets one create unlimited chat rooms, or simply have one-to-one conversations. It has a simple, uncluttered user interface with social media sharing features. One of the interesting features of HipChat is that one can invite guest users of the company, like clients, vendors, and other third-parties into a HipChat group chat room. Users can integrate more than 80 tools within the app like Google Drive, Twitter, and a few core business tools. HipChat is a free-to-use platform with unlimited number of users and integration. However, one needs to pay for unlimited storage, screen sharing and other advanced features. The app has 5-10 lakh installs on Android store.
Teamchat
Webaroo’s Teamchat mobile app comes with an admin panel that enables companies to manage users, groups, downloads, integrations and customisations. Teamchat allows you to create multiple groups with unlimited users. The mobile app contains smart messages that automatically aggregate replies and update themselves. For instance, when a user posts a poll in the group, the message updates itself automatically with the aggregate result when other group members reply to it. Teamchat comes with numerous templates including number tracker, survey, poll, multi-field forms, comment, location, nominations, etc., which can be customised and set up, as per requirements. The app offers the basic service for free, but enterprises can upgrade to a premium account to access the admin panel.
