Bharti Airtel, in a surprising statement, welcomed the entry of Reliance Jio into the digital world. This statement came after Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced the official launch of the Reliance Jio 4G SIM. Bharti Airtel also welcomed Reliance Jio’s call to all leading operators to work together and said that they look forward to it. The company stated that they would continue to deliver the best products and services to the consumers. Though Airtel might also have taken a sarcastic tone while saying that they would continue to fulfil all regulatory obligations in the way.
Earlier in the day, with RJio getting 4 million subscribers in the “test” phase itself, Bharti Airtel had chosen to respond by slashing 3G/4G data rates at least a third, it could be much more on top of the 67% cut just a month ago. The market leader in the genre Airtel had said on Wednesday that it had deployed a technology in Mumbai and Kerala, known as “carrier aggregation”. This new technology would help combine different bands of spectrum to offer faster and more stable 4G data to its users. Airtel claimed that at the peak of the network, the download speeds could go on to a high of 135 Mbps, which is much faster than a normal 4G network.
Earlier, following the launch of the Reliance Jio 4G SIM at the Reliance Industries’s 42nd annual general meeting, Bharti Airtel Ltd, Idea Cellular Ltd and Reliance Communications Ltd have been reported to have lost a whopping Rs.15,840.92 crore in market value combined. Airtel alone lost Rs 119,38.83 crore in its market value on Thursday.
